Solution
Be Essential is a rapid credentialing program designed to reskill individuals in hard-hit COVID industries such as lodging, retail, hospitality, and personal care within 90 days or less, aiming for direct employment with industry partners. This initiative, a result of internal collaboration with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, as well as external partnerships with nonprofits, chambers, industry, and the local WIOA board, has yielded impressive outcomes.
Over 80% of participants completed and earned industry-recognized credentials, with 20% achieving two credentials. Notably, more than 80% of those reskilled had no prior college enrollment. Many transitioned from vulnerable jobs to essential careers, with a significant number pursuing opportunities in healthcare, public safety, and information technology. Recognized as a national best practice by the Bellwether College Consortium, the program has been scaled statewide, showcasing its replicability and innovative approach to workforce development.
